A Summer of a Thousand Years

28th March > 25th May 2025

Opening Reception: Thursday, 27th March – 6:00 PM

“A Summer of a Thousand Years” is the fleeting story of a summer, with images that appear like fleeting visions, devoured by light and on the brink of fading into nothingness.

Martin Bogren’s work reads like a timeless tale, both intimate and universal. It evokes the feeling of “once upon a time” at the edge of a mystical forest, where a deer casts a fleeting glance, the sea blends with the setting sun, and almost mythical creatures pass by in the blink of an eye. Each image is a whisper, a fleeting kiss, a suspended moment balanced delicately between reality and dream.

After a life-changing divorce and the prospect of moving to Berlin, the world seemed to descend into chaos with the onset of the 2020 pandemic. Amidst this turmoil, the serene landscapes of southern Sweden provided an unexpected refuge. Every day, without any specific plan or purpose, moments were captured – landscapes bathed in morning light, intimate reflections on a new passion, and the ever-changing horizon.

These spontaneous photographs, initially gathered in a simple mock-up book for personal comfort, began to weave together into a story of deeper meaning. Unlike his previous structured projects, this collection of images transformed organically, driven by the raw and personal exploration of a soul in transition.

The swift journey from conception to the publication of the book by Editions L’axolotl (Caroline Bénichou) over the span of just one year reflects a work of love and intense devotion.

Martin Bogren will also be presenting an excerpt from an unpublished series in the second room of the gallery.
